The Curious Case Of The Cloned Ashley Greene Twitter

So this is pretty weird. The other night Ashley Greene's friend Heather Lindner mentioned her in a tweet. Feeling like Ashley Greene hadn't tweeted in a while, I clicked her name to see if I'd missed anything. I got a fake version of Ashley Greene's Twitter, which mimicked her profile picture and information but was full of grotesque (if occasionally inspired) parody tweets and random attacks.

For the longest time I couldn't figure out what Lindner had done wrong. Looking at her tweet on my iPod and yielded no clues--the Twitter accounts appeared to be identical in every way, including web address.
Typing in the address of Ashley's real twitter feed brought me to the real one, though. At first the only way I could fine the fake account was by navigating there from Lindner's tweet.

Fake

Real

Today I'm looking at it on my busted old Netbook, and lo and behold:
Blink and you'll miss it, but she typed an upper-case "I" instead of a lower-case "L." Weird, sort of clever, and mostly just confusing. But anyway, this is a thing someone is doing with their time.

Now that's journalism. Who would fake another person's twitter account?

There are plenty of fake celeb accounts, but you're right this is some next level shit.
