Art Vs. Commerce, On The Road Edition

So yesterday the On The Road trailer finally dropped, and the Tumblr-Effusive-Praise-Machine groaned to life. I don't know if you guys have watched this happen before, but every time a trailer appears, TEN SECONDS later, Tumblr is flooded with GIFs and photoshop collages of literally every moment in every two minute trailer. This time we got several iterations every sexy shot of K. Stew (not that there's anything wrong with that) and also, hilariously dozens and dozens of variations of the Jack Kerouac quote that closes the trailer's voice-over. You guys can't even Google another quote? (I documented a sample of those posts on the sporadically active Twilight Tumblr) There are a lot of words in that book! That kind of unthinking enthusiasm kills everything for me, even rad-looking indie flicks directed by the guy who did The Motorcycle Diaries, because it emphasizes the commerce over the art. At least in my head.

Then again. I have seen some K. Stew fansites doing at-length discussions of the book. And the trailer does look great. And the minority of people on Tumblr who are pretentiously bitching about why it should never be a movie and whatever else are way worse than the frothing fan masses. Also: Kristen Stewart's boobs, probably.

In case you missed it: every person I write about ends up fucking someone else I write about. When will Cat Marnell hook up with Robert Pattinson? I'm guessing SOON. If you guys want to fuck a celebrity, let me know. I will blog about you.

Write about me and Alison Brie from Community please.

I guess I don't follow the right Tumblr feeds. I'm looking forward to the movie.
